Nanotechnology is regarded as a key technology of the 21st century with manifold potential applications. At the nanometre scale the bottom-up synthesis strategies of chemistry and biology meets up with the top-down structuring techniques of the semiconductor industry, mesoscopic physics and material sciences. Researchers from experiment and theory groups from the Institute of Nanotechnology work together at the interfaces of the disciplines to find the answers of important future questions: Is it feasible to store the information on future electronic memory chips in individual molecules? Which Nanomaterials could store enough hydrogen to conduct a vehicle? How could you construct perfect lenses with Nanostructures? With new perceptions of these and other ongoing fields of the Nanotechnology we want to make a contribution to the scientifical and economical sustainability of Germany. For this purpose the Helmholtz-Association arranged two program topics:
